Detailed Description
The Tatra 815 twelve-cylinder engine is a legendary, air-cooled diesel engine with a 90° V-configuration, featuring unique design elements such as a segmented crankshaft bolted together from individual segments and mounted in roller bearings, separate cylinder heads (each cylinder has its own, individually removable cooling head), and the absence of electronics. Older generations of T815 engines rely on a purely mechanical in-line injection pump with mechanical control. The engine is extremely durable, reliable in harsh conditions, and easy to repair.
This engine powered the heaviest civilian versions and military tractor units of the T815 series; it was primarily installed in vehicles designed for the most demanding work.
